Sometimes little things can make a big difference. A good example is a food cooler purchased by Athens Food Rescue and given to Heritage Community Clinic Food Pantry.
Every month the pantry does a food handout, and it needed a cooler for that distribution. Thanks to funds provided by QuidelOrtho of Athens, AFR made that happen.
“This is some of the remaining amount of the funds provided by QuidelOrtho that were provided to us in 2024,” explained AFR Executive Director Nanda Filkin. “The money was to be used for the support of our recipients in distribution and transport of donated foods to their clients.”
Athens Food Rescue regularly supplies Heritage Community Clinic Food Pantry and others in the area with food donations from various local sources. It’s food that otherwise would be thrown out.
AFR also used QuidelOrtho funds recently to purchase two carts for Feed My Sheep Food Pantry in Torch. The United Methodist Church group uses the carts to distribute food to to families in need in the Coolville area and surrounding communities.
“We appreciate you so much, we really do,” said Jeanna Null of Feed My Sheep.
AFR is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that has been helping to feed hungry people and keeping surplus food out of the landfill since 2015.
