NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Last Friday, Nov. 22, Hocking College held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new project called The Rescue Kitchen, part of the college’s Hospitality and Culinary Center.
The project is intended to address food insecurity and reduce food waste. It “will serve as a center for food recovery, culinary education, and sustainable community support, thus transforming surplus food into nutritious meals,” according to a Hocking College press release.
Partners include Hocking College, the Joe Burrow Foundation and La Soupe Cincinnati.
Speakers at the ribbon cutting included Ohio’s first lady, Fran DeWine; Lt. Gov. Jon Husted; the outgoing, term-limited representative for Ohio House District 94, Jay Edwards; Robin Burrow, representing the Joe Burrow Foundation; and Katie Funk and Julie Richardson, representing La Soupe Cincinnati.
