Bernadine M. Brooks

Bernadine M. Brooks, 91 peacefully passed away on July 28, 2024, at Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital, Athens, with her loved ones by her side.  She was born June 27, 1933, in Perry County.  Bernadine lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and friends.  A devout Christian, she was known for her deep faith and commitment to the Lord.  She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the old Glouster Mission Church.  She took great joy in reading her bible daily, praying, scrap booking, writing, doing puzzles, shopping, and singing hymns.  Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her loved ones and attending church services at the Happy Hollow Community Church in Nelsonville.  Bernadine was not only a loving mother, but also a devoted grandma, great grandma, and even a great great grandma.  Her family was the center of her world and she cherished every moment she had with them.  Her character was marked by selflessness and generosity.  Bernadine had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and cherished, and she delighted in meeting new people.  Her strength and resilience were evident throughout her life as she faced numerous challenges with grace and unwavering faith.  As we mourn her loss we also celebrate Bernadine’s new journey, walking with the Lord in Heaven.  Her legacy of love, faith and strength will continue to inspire all who knew her. 

She is survived by two sons, Elijah (Dianne) Brooks of Glouster and Samuel Brooks of Buchtel; a daughter, Martha Jones (Joe) of Glouster; 28 grandchildren, Gary, Lisa, D.J., Susan, Sondra, Sabrina, Dylan, Danielle, Josh, Zack, Rejeana, Saprina, Vern, Teah, Zabrina, Rashawnna, Sean, Kris, Samantha, Tabby, Sammy, Beth, Chantel, Nick, Danny, Debbie, Donny, and David; many great and great great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Bill Carroll and Bub Dempsey; four daughters-in-law, Karen Brooks, Jane Brooks, Tanya Brooks, and Sharon Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Gaylord Brooks; her father, John Stansberry; her mother, Flossie Stem Coakley; her children, Wayne, Rejeana, David, Abigail, Daniel, Ezekial, and Vern; a great grandson, Branson Moore; two brothers, Ted and John Stansberry; and two sisters, Dattine and Flossie.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday August 1, 2024 at the Bishopville Church of Christ with Rev. Kelly Nelson officiating.  Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.  A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.  Contributions can be made to the Trimble Textbook and Supplies Foundation, c/o Sandy Gyure, PO Box 187 Glouster, Ohio 45732.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.  A message of comfort may be sent to the family at www.morrisonfc.com.
