Seventh grader seeks presidency of Nelsonville-York Middle School student council

To the editor:

My name is Zach Hockman. I am proud to announce I am running for Nelsonville York Middle School Student Council and I am seeking the office of president.

Here is some information about me:

Zach Hockman is a current 7th grader who is running for Nelsonville York Middle School Student Council President for the 2024-2025 school year.

Zach has much experience behind him. He is the president of The Buckeye Way, an school official anti- bullying group at Nelsonville York Middle School. Zach has served for 4 years as president of The Buckeye Way. He also founded it in 2021. Zach has gotten his group recognized by a U.S. Congressman from Ohio, The Ohio Senate and The Ohio House of Representatives. As a part of his anti-bullying group, Zach spoke to the Ohio University class for counseling for adolescents and young adults in September of 2023 about the issues many tenagers face in school with mental health and different types of bullying. He was elected for his most recent term on January 3, 2024. Zach has run unopposed every time.

Zach also is the current vice president of the Nelsonville York Middle School Student Council. Zach ran unopposed in a student council only special election to fill the vacancy of the position. Zach officially assumed office as vice president on November 6, 2023. Before then, Zach served as backup secretary of the student council from October 8, 2023 to November 6, 2023. Previously for his 6th grade year, in the 2022-2023 school year, he served as a member from September 22, 2022 until April 27, 2023 and then he was appointed backup secretary for that year and assumed office on April 27, 2023 until he finished his term and school year on May 26, 2023.

I would be honored to have all NYMS students vote.
