To the editor:
Next week’s Democratic primary election features only one local race but it is a race of critical importance to Athens County voters.
The primary for Athens County Treasurer is being contested by two local Democrats. I believe Beth Clodfelter is clearly the best choice. She is an accomplished professional with a couple of decades worth of administrative and finance experience at Ohio University. In addition, she has a proven record of public service on Athens City Council. More recently, she has spent time traveling the region as US Senator Sherrod Brown’s area representative where she learned about the problems and solutions to a range of issues facing our Appalachian region.
I believe Beth’s commitment to the work of the Athens County Land bank is second to none and she will provide effective and stable leadership at the Land Bank and the Treasurer’s office for years to come.
Athens County needs Beth Clodfelter in the position of County Treasurer. She will be an officeholder focused on solving problems and moving the county forward rather than using the position as a stepping stone to higher office.
