To the editor:
As the chair of the Feeding Neighbors Levy Committee, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the compassionate Athens County voters who passed the Senior Services Levy, issue 7, as part of the March primary election.
With the funds approved through this levy, we will support seniors facing hunger and isolation. The Meals on Wheels program funded by this measure will deliver hot meals right to seniors’ doorsteps. It provides not only nutritious food, but personal connection to seniors who may have no one else they will see each week. Food insecurity and isolation put seniors at risk for negative health outcomes and threaten their independence.
Support for the Meals on Wheels program, through the Senior Services Levy, helps seniors keep their independence, prevent unnecessary nursing home admissions, and improve their quality of life. Our community has a vital role to play in securing nourishment and connection for our senior neighbors. We are incredibly grateful for your support, Athens County voters.
