James Cunningham

ATHENS- James C. Cunningham, age 93, of Athens died Friday evening, March 29, 2024 at his home.  Born Oct. 6, 1930 in Chauncey, he was the son of the late Russell Cunningham and Bessie Spielman Cunningham.

A 1948 graduate of Chauncey-Dover High School, he operated a service station, Cunningham’s Petroleum Products in Chauncey for several years and retired from the Athens City School System as a custodian.  He was a member of VFW Post 3467 Nelsonville, K.T. Crossen American Legion Post 21 in Athens and Chauncey AMVETS Post.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Jim is survived by several stepchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Florence McKee Cunningham; his second wife, Norma Raeger Withem Cunningham; his sister, Joan Barnhart; his brother, William Cunningham; and a nephew, Jerry Cunningham.

Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, April 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.  Military Rites will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard at the cemetery.  Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
