GUYSVILLE- It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Fred Carl Pennington, age 67 of Guysville who went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 07, 2024 at his family’s farm. Fred was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, colleagues, and friends. His loss is immeasurable and his family’s hearts are broken. Fred was a Christian and strong in his faith. He knew salvation was his.
Born August 6, 1956 in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the eldest son of the late Carl and Beulah ‘Louise’ (Whitt) Pennington. His parents moved to Guysville, Ohio in February 1964 where they raised Cigar and Burley Tobacco, hay, and cattle amongst other things. Early on, the farm included a grade B Dairy. At an early age Fred became an integral part of the farm where he learned from his parents to work hard and with purpose. As the eldest child, he was handed tasks at a young age including watching his younger siblings which often resulted in mischief.
Fred was a 1974 graduate of Alexander High School and Tri-County Joint Vocational School where he received training in diesel mechanics and maintained very good grades.
Fred married the love of his life, Leona Johnson on February 19, 2005. They began their life together in Guysville, Ohio. Fred prayed for children and he considered it his greatest accomplishment in life when he was blessed with three; Elijah (18). Edith (16), and Isaiah (13).
Fred was the branch manager at the Gallipolis branch of Southeastern Equipment Company for many years and more recently served as a cherished salesperson known for his distinctive style and indomitable spirit. Fred’s tenure with Southeastern began in 1986 and spanned a remarkable 38 years.
Fred is survived by 8 siblings, Barbara (Roger) Delong, Glen (Tammy) Pennington, Anthony (Diane) Pennington, Ed (Wanda) Pennington, Brenda (Robert), Carol (Rick) Sams, Jason (Christi) Pennington, and Johnathan (Kari) Pennington; and many foster siblings, nieces and nephews all of whom he loved. We will remember Fred for the joy, laughter, and positive energy he brought into our lives. We will cherish the memories we have of him and keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
