City of Athens
- Meeting canceled: The City of Athens Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, has been canceled.
- Spring Cleanup Week: From April 15 to April 19, city residents may place an unlimited amount of trash bags at the curb on their regular trash pickup days at no additional cost. Larger items can be placed at the curb without calling to arrange for pick-up; a minimum charge of $15.75 per cubic yard will apply. Building materials, tires and liquids will not be accepted at curbside. For yard waste, call the Engineering and Public Works Department at 592-3343 for normal pick-up. Dumpsters will be available at the service garage, 387 W. State St., for scrap metal and trash. Construction debris will not be accepted. Residents may deposit large items and scrap metal in these containers between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday–Friday without charge. Photo ID or copy of your utility bill showing your address required to verify residency.
- Project for rebid: The city will accept sealed bids for the ATH-UPTOWN AREA IMPROVEMENTS, PHASE 1 Project until 1:30 p.m. May 2, when bids will be publicly opened and read aloud. The project includes pavement marking updates, signal improvements, lighting improvements, sidewalk improvements, and accessibility improvements on State, Mill, Washington and Union streets in the Uptown area.
City of Nelsonville
- Boil order: Due to a water line leak repair, the Nelsonville Water Department has issued a boil order for all customers on Short Street, Kontner Street, Mill Street and Poling Avenue until noon Thursday, April 18. When a boil order is in effect, we ask all who are affected to boil their cooking and drinking water for three (3) minutes before being consumed.
- Annual Nelsonville Beautification: The city invites residents to volunteer for work to clean up areas around the city during its annual beautification week, April 21–27. The initiative is sponsored by the city, the Rocky Community Improvement Fund, the Nelsonville Rotary Club and the Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ohio Department of Transportation
The Ohio Department of Transportation has released its list of projects in the 2024 construction season, including 11 in Athens County:
- U.S. 50 traffic signal replacement: U.S. 50 at Washington Road/Meadowbrook Road in Albany. Short-term lane closures with flaggers. Under way. Expected completion: October.
- U.S. 50 joint repair and resurfacing: From Della Drive to River Road and from Vanderhoof Road to SR 7; lane restrictions. Under way. Expected completion: August.
- SR 690 resurfacing: Between U.S. 50 and SR 550. Begins April 29. Short-term lane closures with flaggers. Expected completion: July 31.
- ODOT Garage landslide repair: At facility on West Union Street. No traffic impact. Starts in May. Expected completion: September.
- Hockhocking Adena Bikeway resurfacing: Temporary closures. Starts in May. Expected completion: July.
- South Green Drive pedestrian safety improvements: Lane restrictions. Begins in May. Expected completion: September.
- Wildlife area maintenance: Gravel road resurfacing and maintenance at Wallace H. O’Dowed Wildlife Area. Starts in May. Expected completion: September.
- SR 144 landslide repairs: Between SR 7 and Mountain Bell Road and between Jewell Hollow Road and Bethany Ridge Road. Lane restrictions. Starts in May and June, respectively. Expected completion: November.
- SR 690 landslide repair: Between SR 550 and Dutch Creek Road. Lane restrictions. Starts in June. Expected completion: October.
- Hockhocking Adena Bikeway construction: Connector to village of Chauncey. No traffic impact. Starts in June. Expected completion: September 2025.
- U.S. 33 tree cutting: Between Oxley Road in Athens County and Rocksprings Road in Meigs County. Begins in September. Expected completion: June 2025.
