Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Athens County (Updated)

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — With Pride Month kicking off this weekend, there are many opportunities on the horizon to show LGBTQ+ pride in Athens County.


Saturday, June 1

10 p.m., Athens: Say Gay Dance Night

DJ Mooseknuckle hosts a Pride Month kick off event, Say Gay Dance Night, at Casa Nueva, 6 W. State St., Athens. 

The show starts at 10 p.m. with a $5 cover.


Thursday, June 6 

6 p.m., Athens: Athens Pride Fest, Kickoff Happy Hour

Southeastern Ohio Rainbow Alliance’s Pride Fest starts June 6 with a happy hour at Sol Island Bar and Grill, 700 E. State St., Athens.


Friday, June 7

7 p.m., Athens: Pride Shuffle

A bar shuffle organized as part of SEORA’s Pride Fest, this event is for those 21 and over. The shuffle begins at Tony’s Tavern, 7 W. State St., Athens.

9 p.m., Athens: Pride Dance Party

Another pride month dance party! This time, the party’s at the Union, 18 W. Union St., Athens. Hosted as part of SEORA’s Pride Fest, the event is open to ages 18+ with a $5 cover.


Saturday, June 8

10 a.m., Athens: Pride Parade

One of the major events of Pride Month, SEORA’s Pride Parade will begin lining up at 10 a.m. in front of Alden Library, 30 Park Place, Athens, on Ohio University’s campus. The parade will step off at 11 a.m.

Noon, Athens: Pride Market

Check out local vendors at a market in front of the Union, 18 W. Union St., Athens, as part of SEORA’s Pride Fest.

7 p.m., The Plains: Pride Drag Show

SEORA’s Pride Fest drag show will take place at Eclipse Company Store, 11309 Jackson Drive, The Plains. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. This event has a $10 cover.


Sunday, June 9

Noon, Athens: Pride Drag Brunch

Return to Sol Island Bar & Grill, 700 E. State St., Athens, for a drag brunch on the final day of SEORA’s Pride Fest. 

6 p.m., Athens: Pride Pool Party and Field Day

Share your pride with a splash! Enjoy free entry and free food at the Athens City Pool from 6–8 p.m. The final event of SEORA’s Pride Fest, the pool party is organized in partnership with the OU Pride Center.


Wednesday, June 12

3 p.m., The Plains: Ice Cream Social, Resource Fair, and Legal Name Change Clinic

At The Plains Public Library, 14 S. Plains Road, meet representatives from local organizations offering LGBTQIA+ resources, including Equitas Health, Sojourner’s Resiliency Center — and even the Athens County Independent and the Buckeye Flame!

Legal Aid of Southeast & Central Ohio will also offer a legal name change clinic. 

Ice cream and light refreshments will be served.


Thursday, June 14

5 p.m., Albany: Bee Yourself Crochet Class

Craft crochet bees in this $30 crochet class celebrating Pride Month at Dutch Creek Winery, 12157 OH-690, Albany. The cost includes materials to make two bees and a beverage. Reserve your seat by contacting nancylinneabaur@gmail.com.


Saturday, June 22

10 p.m., Athens: Say Gay Dance Night, Queer Prom

That’s right — another Say Gay Dance Night in June. Also hosted by DJ Mooseknuckle at Casa Nueva, this one’s billed as a queer prom, Mooseknuckle told the Independent.

At Casa Nueva, 6 W State St., Athens, the show starts at 10 p.m. with a $5 cover.


Saturday, June 29

Noon, Chauncey: Chauncey Gays Pride Event

From noon to 2 p.m., celebrate Pride at the Chauncey Community Park! Organized by Chauncey Gays, the event will also feature the Athens County Public Libraries Bookmobile.
