Editor’s note: This letter is a response to one submitted by Fred Kight on July 25, 2024.
Dear Fred,
I’m compelled to respond to you, as I am to so many “democrats/liberals,” who seem to be so distant from the realities of the present US funded genocide. I want you and everyone to grasp the true sickening depravity of these recent moments, when the highest criminal on the planet, charged by the world court with highest degree of human atrocities, comes invited to stand before our elected congress and receive 58 fervent standing ovations in just 60 minutes, from both red and blue, with one sole congress woman, Rashida Tlaib, holding a sign “war criminal.”
Fred, what “rule of law” do you expect any of these politicians to uphold for us? Because if we respect “rule of law,” in particular that of the world court, the ICJ, then we will be obligated to hold all of them accountable to the highest charges imaginable, and those that would protect or defend, or continue to dump billions into arming them at our communities expense, as complicit instruments in that crime.
I want this to be the year we awaken, as working people, and realize that, as neither red or blue politicians will ever hold any real human convictions, because they are instruments of a ruling class, operating completely outside our interests and jurisdiction, an empire that has betrayed us and siphoned billions off our backs to fund the most heinous of colonial projects to keep it going. Can we really expect them to keep us and our planet safe? Why do we keep looking to them because we are so afraid of ourselves?
There is no red and blue, left or right, there is only top and bottom. We have more in common with each other than we think, we share the values of liberty and the right of self determination, and even, as you may have celebrated on the fourth of this month, the right of resistance to an oppressor. May we unbury these convictions from the depths of white supremacy and hypocrisy and stand also with the labor unions who are collectively standing against the bi-partisan genocidal war machine; the united postal workers union, electrical workers union, united auto workers, united nurses union, united painters union, and national education association, calling for an immediate end to Israeli military aid.
Free Palestine!
