Breed: Female black lab mix
Age: About two years
Weight: 39 lbs.
Looking for: A patient owner who will let her continue to learn in a home environment.
About Midnight: In early July, three dogs were seized from a very difficult situation. It was clear that none had spent much time around humans. Despite their absolute terror upon entering the shelter, they were miraculously not aggressive towards humans or other dogs. Midnight, a small lab mix with glossy, jet black fur was arguably the most nervous of the group. We have let her take the time she needs to adjust to so many new things. In the last few months, she has learned to tolerate being confined to a kennel, eat kibble, walk with different volunteers and staff, and most recently, explore the outdoor play yards.
Midnight is showing remarkable progress despite all of the trauma she has faced. She is happily coming out for walks, checking in with her handler via eye contact, accepting string cheese, and tolerating light touch. Midnight is still learning how to be a dog, but she already has demonstrated great qualities, including a willingness to explore new environments and trust her handler. To keep progressing, Midnight would benefit from a patient owner who will let her continue to learn in a home environment. If you have a heart for mistreated dogs, Midnight would love to meet you!
Please call the Athens County Dog Shelter at (740) 593-5415 to meet Midnight.
