General announcements
- Candidate forum tonight: The League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum for the Athens County commissioner race at 6:30 p.m. today, Sept. 24, at the Athens Community Center, 701 E. State St., Athens.
- Fitness court opens: On Wednesday, Sept. 25, City of Athens will open an outdoor Fitness Court by the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway near the new fire station on Stimson Avenue.
- Leaf pickup schedule: The City of Athens has released its 2024 leaf pickup schedule, which begins the week of Oct. 14.
- Audits released: The Ohio Auditor’s Office has released financial audits for the following:
- Village of Coolville (Jan. 1, 2022–Dec. 31, 2023)
- Athens Hocking Vinton Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2023)
- Albany Independent Agricultural Society (Dec. 1, 2021–Nov. 30, 2023)
- Nelsonville floodplain regulations: As of Sept. 9, 2024, Chapter 152 of the City of Nelsonville’s code is updated to include new floodplain damage regulations in compliance with FEMA and ODNR requirements.
Traffic advisories
Athens
- West Union Street: Two-way traffic is open from the bridge at SR 682 to Jefferson Street and from Shafer Street to Hospital Drive. Herrold Avenue also is two-way. Jefferson Street to Hospital Drive is one way eastbound (towards Uptown), with work extending past the gas station to Seaman’s. Business entrances will experience temporary closures. - Chip sealing: Johnson Run Road (CR 68), Oakdale Road (CR 31)
- Grading: Kuhns Road (CR 94)
- Culvert replacement: Linscott Run Road (Ames Twp. 343)
Ohio Department of Transportation
- Trimble Twp. 313: Road closures will be in place for the resurfacing and culvert maintenance project through the Wallace O’Dowd Wildlife Area. Expected completion: Sept. 15.
- SR 690 landslide repair: Between Dutch Creek Road (CR 34) and SR 550. One-lane traffic will be maintained with temporary signals. Expected completion: Nov. 1.
- Albany traffic signal replacement: U.S. 50 at Washington Road/Meadowbrook Road in Albany. Short-term lane closures with flaggers. Expected completion: Nov. 1.
- SR 144 slope stabilization (2): One lane closed between Mountain Bell Road and SR 7; traffic maintained with temporary signals. Expected completion: Nov. 1. One lane closed between Jewell Hollow Road and Bethany Ridge Road; traffic maintained with temporary signals. Expected completion: Nov. 15.
