To the editor:
As a Meals on Wheels driver, I’ve witnessed just how crucial this program is for the seniors it currently serves in this county. For many of these individuals, the meal delivery is not only a source of nourishment but also a lifeline for their health and safety.
Often, the Meals on Wheels driver is the only person they will see for an entire week or longer. This brief interaction provides peace of mind for clients and their families. I, along with other drivers, have encountered clients who have fallen or faced medical emergencies, and without these visits, they may have remained without help for hours or even days.
It’s easy to assume that all seniors have family members close by, but many do not. Some families live far away, are caught up in their busy lives, or may not check in regularly. That’s why continuing to support the hundreds of seniors already benefiting from Meals on Wheels is so essential.
I’m asking the residents of Athens County to ensure that this vital service continues by voting in favor of the Senior Services Levy (Issue 21) in the upcoming November election.
