To the editor:
Charlie Adkins has dedicated his life to public service.
He spent his career as a bricklayer at Ohio University, where he rose to the position of
Union President, representing the interests of university employees with the Local
AFSCME 1699. In addition to his full-time job, he has impressively served more than 32
years as a volunteer firefighter with the Richland Fire Department.
I became acquainted with Commissioner Adkins in 2014, during my first term as Sheriff
of Athens County. From the moment I took office, he has consistently been available,
attentive to our needs, and supportive of our mission to protect the community. His
assistance has been vital in securing state-of-the-art equipment necessary for ensuring
the safety of our Deputies as they carry out their duties.
During his years of service, Adkins has been actively engaged on the front lines, not
only providing support but also demonstrating a deep understanding of the needs of law
enforcement, 911 services, fire departments, and EMS. His personal and professional
contributions have significantly enhanced the safety of Athens County residents. With
his extensive experience and unwavering dedication, Charlie is exceptionally well-
prepared to continue serving Athens County as Commissioner for many years to come.
