Hartley Alexander Leigh

ATHENS- Hartley Alexander Leigh, 36, of Athens, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 24, 2024 at Grant Hospital Trauma Center Columbus, Ohio. Born on April 14, 1988 in Camden, Maine, he was the son of Candace Crawford Leigh and Henry Hartley Leigh who, along with his older brother, Avary Leigh, predeceased him. 

Hartley is survived by two sons, Zephyn Lennox Leigh, age 10 and Luka Hart Leigh, age 3, and their mothers Emily Lennox, and Mary Sebring;  his sister, Jennifer Crawford Leigh and her husband Nathan Kridler, and his nephew and nieces, Avary Greener Kridler, Violet Crawford Kridler and Rila Louise Kridler; his stepmother Meggy (Margaret) Morrison-Leigh.  

Other survivors include aunts and uncles: Christiana Crawford and Nick Kirby, Elizabeth and Charlie Buell; and cousins: Maryavis Howell, Beth Klaurens, Meredith Files, Kyle Kirby, Sara Garvey, Constance Garvey, Noah Garvey, Margaret Buell Swift. Dear family friends: The Saltzman Family, Tyler Bonner, Joy Ammon, Scott Dacey, Jane and Devon Jacobs, and Suzan Krauland. 

Hartley was a 2006 graduate of Alexander High School in Albany, Ohio and attended Hocking College Culinary school. 

Hartley was employed by Amanda Manufacturing in Logan, Ohio and Valley Zip Line Tours Lancaster, Ohio. He also owned a small landscaping and tree trimming business.

Hartley previously worked for Casa Nueva Restaurant in Athens, Ohio and Hocking College Lodge where he taught students how to run professional kitchen equipment. Hartley was a fun team worker who will be missed by his colleagues and clients.

Hartley enjoyed thrilling outdoor adventures like snow skiing, mountain biking, sky diving and zip lining. He loved hiking and being outdoors. He recently became interested in hot air balloons. 

Hartley was an avid reader. He was also an artist who worked in several media and made copper wire and gem stone trees. He enjoyed walking streams and collecting big rocks especially rocks shaped like the State of Ohio. He excelled at creating and cooking healthy meals for his sons. 

Hartley was kind, gentle, handsome and colorful. He enjoyed wearing vintage tailored clothes and unique jewelry including his collection of unique belt buckles.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Hartley at the Unitarian Fellowship Church of Athens, 184 Longview Heights Rd, Athens, Ohio on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. His friends and family are welcome to attend and to contribute to his eulogy.
