- Disputed ballots: The Athens County Board of Elections will meet to discuss disputed provisional ballots and disputed absentee ballots at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the board office, 15 S. Court St., Room 130, Athens.
- Election count and certification: The Athens County Board of Elections will begin the official count of votes in the 2024 general election at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15. They will hold a regular board meeting and certify the election results at 3:30 p.m. Both activities will take place at the board office, 15 S. Court St., Room 130, Athens.
- Senior transportation: The Athens City-County Health Department invites seniors to learn about local transportation options with HAPCAP Mobility Coordinator Ben Ziff on Friday, Nov. 22, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Athens Community Center, 701 E. State St., Athens. The program will include an information session, time for questions and answers, and refreshments provided by United Seniors of Athens County.
- Nelsonville tax subpoenas: The Regional Income Tax Agency has mailed approximately 636 administrative subpoena letters to Nelsonville taxpayers that did not respond to the non-filing income tax notice that was sent in October, before the subpoena was issued. - Winter energy crisis financial relief: HAPCAP’s Winter Crisis Program provides bulk fuel (propane, wood, coal, fuel oil, kerosene) for eligible households in Athens, Hocking and Perry counties, who are facing emergency situations regarding gas or electric service. - Athens leaf pickup: This week, city of Athens loose-leaf pickup is in Area #2: Westside, Highland/Congress Area, University Estates, and Uptown Neighborhoods.
- Nelsonville leaf pickup: City of Nelsonville loose leaf pickup will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on even-numbered weekday dates through Dec. 6, except for Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving). Rake leaves to curbside; do not include branches, sticks, grass clippings or tall grass, which can clog and damage equipment. City crews will not rake leaves.
- Curb bids: The City of Athens is accepting sealed bids for the ATH-Curb Ramps Project Phase 1, ODOT PID 119975, City Project #366, until 10 a.m. Dec. 3, when they will be publicly opened and read aloud.
- Audits released: The auditor of state has released audits for the period Jan. 1, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2023, for the villages of Trimble and Chauncey.
- Food bank distribution: The SE Ohio Foodbank will distribute fresh produce, protein, and other shelf-stable food items at Nelsonville-York High School from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16, to qualifying households in Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, and Washington Counties. Traffic advisories
Athens
- Sells Park Dam: The Sells Park Parking Area and access at the end of Avon Place is closed for maintenance. Expected completion: Nov. 19.
- Court Street: The sidewalk in front of 63 S. Court St. and on Union Street will be closed due to ongoing construction, due to a large void under the sidewalk. Adjacent businesses will remain open. Expected completion: Nov. 15.
- West Union Street: Traffic is now two-way from SR 682 to Shafer Street. While preparing for paving, crews will work on sidewalks on the north side of the street, as well as install water service lines, drains, curbs, and gutters from Herrold Avenue to Shafer Street. Flaggers may be present in the work area. Expected completion date: Nov. 2024.
Chauncey
- Service line installation: A crew on Converse St./ SR 13 will direct one-lane traffic as construction continues. Elm Street will remain local traffic only while remaining services are installed. Jacobs Avenue will be closed from Birge to Monroe for main line installations. Paving is expected to begin next week.
- Ohio Department of TransportationSR 144 slope stabilization: One lane will be closed between Jewell Hollow Road and Bethany Ridge Road; traffic maintained with temporary signals. Expected completion: Nov. 15.
