
ATHENS- Jack Sickels, 65, of Athens, passed away Thursday December 5, 2024, at Kobacker Hospice, Columbus OH, with his loving wife Kathy by his side. Born July 14, 1959 in Athens, he was the son of the late Kenneth Sickels and Hildred Clark Sickels Gwinn.
Jack dedicated his life with hard work and great pride to the family business, Sickels Septic Tanks. He was a proud supporter, life member and previous Fire Chief of the Richland Area Volunteer Fire Dept. He was also a member of Sons of American Legion KT Crossen Post 21, Albany Lodge 723, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Athens County Shrine Club, Athens Elks Lodge 973, Athens HOG Club and the NRA.
He was a man of few words, but his ornery smile and following chuckle said it all. Prior to his medical disability, he enjoyed relaxing rides on his Harley Motorcycle. He continued to enjoy hanging out and hearing some tall tales at ” Dan’s Barn” with his family and friends when time permitted and cherished all the wonderful memories made with his friends that were like family at the American Legion.
Jack is survived by his wife of 44 years Kathy (Adkins) Sickels; four sisters, Kathy Nicholson of Tucson AZ, Becky (Bill) Stover of Coolville, Teresa (Greg) Harris of Athens and Connie (Paul) Whaley of Shade; two step-brothers, Keith (Leslie) Gwinn and Kevin (Marcia) Gwinn both of Athens; his step-mother, Alma Sickels of Athens; two step-sisters, Cindy Sharpe and Mindy (Rodney) King both of Athens; a step-brother, J.R. Coon of Athens; a brother in-law, Charlie Adkins of Athens; a sister-in-law, Joyice Adkins (Al) Childs of Athens; also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Buddy Gwinn; a sister, Penny Sickels; his father and mother-in-law, Tom and Irene Adkins; two brothers- in-law, Tommy Adkins Jr. and Blaine Sharpe; two sisters-in-law, Donna Adkins Bryan and Vicky Adkins; and his grandparents, Linton and Irene Sickels and Herbert and Edith Clark.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday Dec 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor Debbie Brookins officiating. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Friday Dec. 13th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Albany Lodge 723 will hold Masonic rites Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a gathering of family and friends immediately following the burial at the KT Crossen Post 21 American Legion Athens.
