Corporate accountability should extend to parking lots, too

To the editor:

The lack of corporate accountability in the WalMart/Planet Fitness parking lot is appalling. Several years consecutively, this parking lot has been deliberately neglected in favor of corporate profits, to the chagrin and expense of the good folks of Athens! I have heard at least half a dozen complaints of severe damage to vehicles from large potholes this year!

None of the managers that I spoke to have ANY accountability for the parking lot, and the maintenance is outsourced by the university to a company in Wisconsin! How can the common folk be expected to get by when the system is rigged so that corporations won’t be held accountable for their neglect? The cost of basic pothole repairs to a business as large as that one can’t be comparable to, say, a $1,200 suspension rebuild for the common folk! This is unfair, classist and needs to be rectified.
