
ATHENS- Beverly J. Hornsby, age 82, of Athens, formerly of The Plains died Thursday evening, January 23, 2025 at her home. Born January 22, 1943 in Beverly, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Antonio E. PaPa and Bertha H. Fournier Papa.
She was a 1961 graduate of Beverly (MA) High School and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ohio University.
She was employed at Hocking College for 24 years. She taught at Tri-County JVS for 11 years and Hocking College. She was the formerly Secretary to the Vice President, Administrative Secretary and manager of the Book Store all at Hocking College. She was formerly employed at Security Bank, Hocking Valley Bank and Ohio University Dormitory Accounting. She has been a resident of the Athens area since 1962. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Athens Women’s Club and CCD of the church.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Edward L. Hornsby; two daughters, Chris (Stephen) Buck of Greenfield and Joyce (Joe) McCarty of Magnetic Springs; a son, Edward (Emily) Hornsby, Jr. of Columbus; grandchildren, Lindsey (Matthew) Ludwig, Shelby (Christopher) Tobin, Kasey (Ashley) McCarty, Chelsey (Damion) Ramos, Rochelle (Logan) Guisinger, Edward (Hannah) Hornsby III and Rathana Hornsby; seventeen great grandchildren; and a sister, Ann (Bill) Wilkins of Salisbury, MA.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Marie McAuliffe; an aunt, Marie Matton; and a cousin, Joan Matton.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, January 28th, at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Father Mark Moore officiating. Burial will be in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
