ATHENS- Evelyn Louise McKnight of Athens died Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025 at the home of her niece. Born in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Mack R. Braley and
Gladys E. Phillips Braley.
A graduate of Athens High School, she attended Ohio University. She was a lifelong Athens County resident. She was employed at Ohio University for 42 years in Alden Library and the Speech and Hearing Clinic. She was a member and Clerk of the Rolling Hills Baptist Church. She was also a member and served in many offices with the Albany Senior Citizens, a former Board Member of New to You Shop, a volunteer with the Athens County Chapter of the American Red Cross where she served as night dispatcher for many years and a member of REACT.
Evelyn is survived by her twin sister, Margaret (Darrell “Trip”) Shields of Albany; two nieces, Annette (Jerry) Phillips of Athens and Janet Newton of Gallipolis; a niece in law, Nancy Braley of Athens; several great nieces and great nephews, Cierra (John) Kulchar, Dakota (Emily) Phillips, Krista (Jordan) Dickens, Bailey (Chase) Simpson, Kortney (Hayden) Phillips and Stacey (Mike) Smith; and multiple great, great nieces and great, great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Rex McKnight, who passed in 2012; a brother, Walter L. Braley; an infant sister and infant brother; a foster brother, Carroll Burris; and a nephew, Jeff Braley.
Funeral service will be conducted Thursday 1:00 p.m., February 20th at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor John Palley officiating. Burial will be in Coolville Cemetery.
