OU Earth Day celebrations will highlight global and local sustainability efforts

To the editor:

ATHENS, Ohio –– On Monday, April 14, Ohio University will join a global network of sustainable leaders with a celebration of campus and community sustainability efforts. The International Earth Day Network collaborates with partners in over 192 countries to support environmental protection and peace.  In alliance with this global effort, Ohio University will host an Earth Day Celebration from noon to 4 p.m., Monday, April 14, in the Walter Hall Rotunda, hosted by the Office of Sustainability. The Earth Day Celebration is free and open to the public.

This event will highlight the efforts made toward environmental sustainability in Athens. Local and University organizations will offer education on environmental efforts and involvement. Those in attendance will hear from keynote speaker Geoff Dabelko, Mayor Steve Patterson, poets Stephanie Kendrick and Wendy McVicker, and OHIO Sustainability Hub faculty coordinators. The event will also celebrate the announcement of the 2025 sustainability award recipients and the observance of Arbor Day, offer a free thrift store all day and an EV Showcase across the street at Peden Stadium (from 2 to 4 p.m.), and enjoy music from local band The Houseguest.

Come support the efforts of local citizens, faculty, staff and students making great strides toward sustainability! For more information on Ohio University’s Earth Day celebration, visit the Ohio University Office of Sustainability’s website at https://www.ohio.edu/sustainability.
