ATHENS- John “Keenan” Garrett, age 73, passed away on April 14, 2025, in Athens, Ohio. He was born on July 19, 1951, in Sydney, Ohio.
Keenan was preceded in death by his father John Joseph Garrett and mother Mildred Arlene Garrison Garrett.
Surviving are two brothers and sisters in laws: Tim and Lynne Garrett of Waynesville, NC and Randy and Ami Garrett of Southport, NC. Four nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews.
Keenan grew up in central Ohio, mostly in Fairfield County. Moved to Athens at 18 years old to complete his “Degree in Education” from Ohio University. He lived in Athens for the next 55 years working in local restaurant and tavern establishments. Keenan was a fixture in Athens. The friends made throughout his life in Athens were his local family. A sports freak, Keenan always said he was a gambler, “just not good at it”. As many of his Athens family have commented, “Rest Easy, Brother”.
