Mary West

Mary West, age 50, of Nelsonville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on May 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 15, 1974, in Athens, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jimmie Spears. A devoted mother, proud grandmother, and cherished partner, Mary’s life revolved around the love she gave and received from her family. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering support touched everyone who knew her.

Mary enjoyed the simple joys of life: fishing by the water, reading a good book, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and even playing video games. Her laughter lit up every room, and her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.

She is survived by her loving partner of 27 years, Terry Rutter Sr.; and her children: Brandon (Brailyn) West of Nelsonville, Cassandra (Dewayne) West of Gahanna, Jesse (Sarah) West of Washington Courthouse, Sara (Trent) West of Logan, Terry Rutter Jr. of Nelsonville, Albert Rutter of Nelsonville, Anna (Ashton) Rutter of Albany, Amber Rutter of Nelsonville, and Beckie Rutter of Nelsonville.

Mary was a proud grandmother to Brendyn, River, Michael, MJ, Wyatt, Scott, Brooklynn, Jenna, Kai, Jaxson, Aryan, Hunter, Willow, and Declan.

She is also survived by her siblings: Melinda Lewandowski, Sam (Edie) Spears, and Greg (Sylvia) Spears; her best friend and cousin, Loretta Rutter; and many nieces and nephews. She held a special bond with her nephew, Sammy (Courtney) Spears of Nelsonville.

Mary also leaves behind special family and friends: John (Martha) Giffin, Laura (Jenny) Giffin, and her godchildren, Bray and CJ.

Mary was preceded in death by her fathers, Jimmie Spears and Ronald Lewandowski; her sister, Cassandra Spears; her uncle, Jerry Rutter; her aunt, Jo-Mae Rutter; and her brother-in-law, Jack McKee.

Mary will be remembered as a pillar of love and resilience. Her generous spirit, kind heart, and joyful laughter left a lasting mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy will live on through the lives of her family and friends.
