To the editor:
House Republicans recently voted for $700 billion in cuts to Medicaid. This is part of Trump’s “One Big Beautiful (ugly) Bill”.
After weeks of intense infighting, this spending package now heads to the Senate. If passed, it would raise the cost of living for millions of Americans, so as to put even more money into the pockets of the upper economic classes.
Trump warned House Republicans that a no vote on this legislation amounted to the “ultimate betrayal” — you’re either with him or you’re against him. Republicans fell line as they voted to enact the largest Medicaid cut in American history. It passed by ONE vote.
Just a few of the many harmful features of this bill:
- to kick as many as 14 million people off their health care, while causing hospital service cuts and closures.
- to cut food assistance to millions of families, seniors, and school-age children.
- to slash clean energy programs and climate initiatives aimed at cleaning up the planet, and instead promote the expansion of an unhealthy, unclean, climate-destroying petroleum industry.
- to cut student loans, loan forgiveness, and Pell Grant programs which will make college even less affordable for millions of lower income Americans.
It is crucial that we lobby our Senators to hold the line against passage of this inhumane legislation.
We need to contact our Senators today, and again in the days before June 16, to urge the defeat of this selfish and hateful legislation.
Instead of being Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”, we need to convince our two Senators that it is “One Big Inhumane Bill’ for a great, many Americans!
Please call or contact your Ohio Senators today!!
