Dan Gross

PORTSMOUTH- Charles Daniel “Dan” Gross, 83, of Portsmouth, died Monday evening, September 8, 2025 at SOMC Hospice of Portsmouth.  Born September 21, 1941 in Athens, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin Gross and Ruth Pauline Shafer Gross.

A 1959 graduate of Athens High School, he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ohio University in Civil Engineering.  While at O.U. he was involved in the Army ROTC program. He was a civil engineer for and retired from the Uranium Enrichment Plant in Piketon.

He was a member of the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Wheelersburg and the National Model Railroaders Association.  He enjoyed photographing area steam locomotive engines.  He was also a youth sports coach and enjoyed following his grandchildren in athletics.

Dan is survived by a daughter, Gretchen (Mark) Kendall of Portsmouth; a son, Adam (Jennifer) Gross of Lewisburg, PA; five grandchildren, Megan (Rafael) Olivieri, Sarah (Darrin) Shank, Adam (Shonacy) Kendall, Lauren Gross and Aidan Gross; three great grandchildren, Chase, Sophia, and Raelynn.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Constance Ann Glasgo Gross, who passed on December 14, 2010.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, September 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev.
