
ALBANY, Ohio –– Richard Hough Haning II, 64, of Albany, died early Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025 at his home. Born November 25, 1960 in Athens, he was the son of the late Richard Hough “Dick” Haning and Patricia Creamer Haning.
He attended Athens High School and later received his GED. He retired after 20 years of service from Ohio University as an electrician. He enjoyed coin collecting, gardening and especially his family. He was a lifelong Athens County resident.
Richard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lisa Draper Haning; a daughter, Melissa (John) Haggy of Middleport; a son, Richard W. (Kara) Haning of Albany; six grandchildren, Andrea McGrath, Kayle Haning, Annie McGrath, Savannah Haning, Cory Haning and Wyatt Haning; one great grandchild, Eleanor McGrath Lobdell; two sisters, Jannette Haning Smith of Athens and Angela Haning of Athens; a brother, Jonathan Haning of Mt. Orab; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Suzanne Willison and Rebecca Haning; and an infant brother, James Haning. Graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at Haning Cemetery, Alexander Township. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
