- Ohio Department of Transportation
- SR 682 sewer line project: Project ongoing between 3rd Street and 4th Street; temporary signals in use. One lane closed. Estimated completion: Jan. 9.
- U.S. 33 and SR 682 roundabout: SR 682 at U.S. 33. open with flaggers. The right shoulder is closed on U.S. 33 westbound. Right lane is closed on U.S. 33 eastbound. Off ramp from U.S. 33 west to SR 682 closed. Use the non-interchange exit for Chauncey then turn right onto North Plains Road. Estimated completion: Nov. 28.
- SR 681 culvert replacement: Project is taking place on SR 681 between Hebbardsville Road and Setty Road. The road is closed. ODOT’s detour is SR 681 to SR 32 W/U.S. 50 W to SR 143 to SR 684 to SR 681. Estimated completion: Nov. 24
- U.S. 50 RCUT: Reduced-collision U-turn construction is taking place on U.S. 50 at Coolville. Lane closures are in place in both directions. Estimated completion: Nov. 30.
- U.S. 33 Athens-Meigs expansion: A two-lane to four-lane expansion project is taking place on U.S. 33 from Athens to Darwin and Five Points to Ravenswood. Lane closures will be in place in both directions on U.S. 33 between Pleasant Hill Road and Oxley Road through Friday, Nov. 7. Rolling roadblocks will be in place during rock blasts. Flaggers will maintain traffic at side roads intermittently. Estimated completion: 2028.
Albany
- Hebbardsville Road bridge: Athens County EMS announced Sept. 12 that unforeseen structural issues will cause a potential six-month closure of the bridge at Hebbardsville Road (CR 17A) at the Fisher Road intersection (CR 17).
General
- Register for annual Turkey Trot: Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities who want to participate in the 17th Annual Turkey Trot have until Nov. 20 to register and get a shirt; same-day registration at shelterhouse available up until 30 minutes before the race starts. 8:30 a.m. Nov. 27. Park at West State Ball Fields. Athens.
- Learn about mediation: The Athens Area Mediation Service invites the public to its annual community lunch meeting at noon Saturday, Nov. 22, in the basement community space of the Athens United Methodist Church, 82 N. Court St., Athens. Enjoy a free lunch as you learn about AAMS’ work and hear updates on its programs and vision for the year ahead.
- Nominate for community impact awards: The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for annual awards for member businesses, organizations, and individuals who work to better the area. Read about the six awards and see a list of previous winners through the link. Nominations due by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1.
- Letters to Santa: Beginning Dec. 1, a mailbox will be set up at the entrance of the Athens Community Center for children to send their letters to Santa. If a return mailing address is provided, they will receive a letter in response. To receive a return letter by Christmas, submit by Wednesday, Dec. 17.
- Seeking secretary for city of Nelsonville: City of Nelsonville is seeking applicants for a part-time secretary to serve multiple boards and commissions. See details through link.
- Nelsonville property registration: The City of Nelsonville Code Office wants to remind rental property owners that it is time for rental and vacant property registration for the 2026 calendar year. Applications for both certificates can be picked up at city hall in the code office lobby, or they can be downloaded from the city website.
