Charles R. “Sonny” Grinstead Jr.

MILLFIELD, Ohio – Charles R.  “Sonny” Grinstead Jr., 90 of Millfield, passed away Friday March 13, 2026, at Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.  He was born December 2, 1935, in Orbiston, Hocking County, to the late Charles R. and Pauline Strausbaugh Grinstead. 

He was a veteran of the United States Army, and he worked for Legg and Davis Construction and retired from Meigs Mine #31. He attended the McDougal Church in Millfield. 

He was a 4H advisor for many years and served on the MRDD board. He enjoyed camping, fishing, mowing his grass, tinkering outside, and he especially cherished time spent with his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Tink” (Timothy) Taylor of Glouster and Judy Grinstead of Haydenville; two step sons, Keith (Kelly) Six of Millfield and Kevin (Rhonda) Six of Glouster; 11 grandchildren, Bryan (Tressie), Eric, Andrea (Danny), Brittany, Alex, Gregory, Little Gary, Amber (Eric), Megan, Ricky, and Josh; 12 great grandchildren, Jace, Landon, Averey, Lily, Poppy, Adalyn, Michael, Tater, Donovhan, Taylor, Caleb, and Malia; and two sisters, Eva North of Logan and Sam Stover of Haydenville.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Edwards Grinstead; his second wife, Dorothy Hunter Six Grinstead; a son Rick Grinstead; and a sister, Virgene Sheets.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Carly and Barb, his aides who took great care of him. 

A celebration of life will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the 13 Event Center, 15913 SR 13, Millfield, OH 45761. A military graveside service will be announced at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.  A message of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting his tribute wall at www.morrisonfc.com.
