Construction for Athens Utility Relocation Project to begin March 2026

| |

ATHENS, Ohio – The City of Athens will begin construction on the Athens Utility Relocation Project in March 2026. The project is part of an ongoing effort to improve the reliability, safety, and appearance of utility infrastructure in the Uptown central business district.

Construction will begin on Carpenter Street before moving to State Street and is expected to continue through fall 2026. The work will be performed by Miller Cable Company under contract with the City of Athens.

During construction, crews will relocate utilities and complete related infrastructure improvements. Temporary sidewalk and streetscape disruptions may occur while work is underway; however, access to businesses, residences, and driveways will be maintained throughout the project.

The City of Athens appreciates the community’s patience as these improvements are completed and will work to minimize disruptions to residents, businesses, and visitors.
