CHAUNCEY, Ohio – Alvira Spears, 71, of Chauncey, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital. Born February 2, 1955, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Myrtle Nutt Rutter. She cherished time spent with family and friends.
She is survived by sons, Billy Joe Spears, Charles (Megan) Spears, Jonathan (Penny) Spears, Harold Peters, whom she though of as a son; daughters, Alvira (Lonnie) Tyler, Amanda Spears, Ellen (Michael) Spears, and Carol Douglas, whom she thought of as a daughter; 20 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers, Joe and Ace Rutter; sisters, Nancy Cupp, Mary Rutter, and Gloria.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, Clarence Spears; grandson, Jeffrey Willard; brothers, Ted and Jerry Rutter; sisters, Kathy Dennis and Ellen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mahlon and Ada Spears; a brother-in-law, Mahlon “Babe” Spears; a sister-in-law, Mary Rutter; and her best friend, Edith Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday April 24 at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Pastor Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. A visitation will take place on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
