ATHENS, Ohio – Steven Allen Conrad of Dutch Creek Road, Athens, Ohio, passed away at his home on April 29, 2026. He leaves behind a sister, Cheryl Lynn Conrad, of Tennessee, and a brother, Ronald Paul Conrad, of Virginia. Steve also leaves behind a community where he found a home, fulfillment, and loving friends, among them Suzanne and John Howell, Sharon Morel, Duane Bogart, Richard Thieret, Wenda Sheard, David Herold, Marcia Goldstein, Sue Perine, and others.
Steve will be missed by many in the Athens Friends Meeting, in his neighborhood, and elsewhere. Steve’s generosity, humor, intelligence, craftsmanship, cooking skills, and humanity were gifts to those who came to know him well.
Friends buried Steve’s body naturally on a shrouding board crafted by Richard Thieret in a private ceremony assisted by Tim and Nick Jagers of Jagers & Sons Funeral Home and grave digger Billy Hart. A photo of the burial posted on the Southeast Ohio Natural Burial Working Group has been viewed over half a million times in less than three days.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Athens Friends Meeting House, 22 Birge Drive, Chauncey, OH 45719.
