ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — GuardCare is just over a week away! Organizers expect up to 1,000 people to attend this free health care event offering a wide range of medical services provided by health care professionals from the Ohio National Guard and local health care partners.
GuardCare is a collaboration between the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio National Guard and happens at least once a year, at a different location each time. This year, GuardCare is being held at Ohio University’s Heritage Hall, 191 W. Union St., Athens, sponsored by the Athens City-County Health Department and Ohio Department of Health.
GuardCare is open to everyone regardless of income, insurance status, or ability to pay. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are required. Transportation will be provided by Hocking Athens Perry Community Action Program at local libraries and other sites around the county.

Participants may receive a variety of free health care services, including:
- Dental care, including fillings and extractions.
- Vision exams and prescription glasses.
- Behavioral health services.
- Laboratory testing.
- Women’s health services.
- Men’s health services.
- Physical examinations.
- Immunizations for children and adults
- Additional health care services and resources.
