ATHENS, Ohio – Join us on Saturday, August 22 for the Ohio River Sweep on the Hocking and help keep our waterways clean!
The Ohio River Sweep is an annual volunteer cleanup spanning the entire 981-mile Ohio River. Each year, thousands of volunteers from six states work together to remove litter from riverbanks and tributaries throughout the Ohio River Basin. Here in Athens, volunteers will clean sections of the Hocking River within the city limits.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot on E. Park Drive. Additional overflow parking will be available in the Athens Community Center parking lots. Volunteers will be organized into small groups to clean designated sections of the river. Following the cleanup, everyone is invited to enjoy a free picnic-style lunch.
Important information:
- Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that can get dirty.
- Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate clothing for high grass.
- Gloves and trash bags will be provided.
- Early registrants will receive a free event T-shirt while supplies last.
- All participants must sign a waiver. Please download, print, sign, and bring the 2026 Ohio River Sweep Agreement to Participate/Waiver form with you to the event.
Pre-registration is required by August 17.
