ATHENS, Ohio – Sylvia L. Spears, 46, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Ohio Health O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. She was born on September 7, 1979 in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was raised in Texas. Sylvia was employed by Sikorski’s Riverway Grill in Racine. She loved all genres of music, enjoyed spending time with her children, and had a deep appreciation for reading.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Spears of Athens; two sons, Eli Owen of Texas and Leroy Owen-Carter of Arizona; two daughters, Mackenzie Spears and Jamie Spears, both of Athens County; a step-son, Ronald Eakins of Athens County; a step-daughter, Jessica Flipse of Athens County; her father, Jesse (Joan) Owen of Texas; her mother, Sandra (Walter) Carpenter of Jacksonville; a brother, Gordon (Nancy) Owen of Texas; a sister, Amanda D’Orazio of Texas; her mother-in-law, Nancy Cupp of Athens County; former step-mother, Deborah Owen of Texas; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Cassandra D’Orazio; her grandmother, Alice Broxton; an uncle, David Eli Owen.
