ATHENS, Ohio – The Appalachian Center for Economic Networks (ACEnet) announces a planned executive leadership transition as Executive Director Larry Fisher prepares to retire after 24 years of service.

Effective September 1, current Director of Operations Adam Kody will assume the role of Executive Director of ACEnet following his appointment by the ACEnet Board of Trustees on April 28. The planned leadership transition reflects the organization’s continued commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, workforce development, and economic opportunity throughout the region. Fisher will remain with ACEnet in a supporting role through the end of 2026, working alongside Kody, to provide leadership continuity and assist with onboarding the organization’s new financial manager.

Fisher joined ACEnet in 2002 as Director of the Food Ventures Program, overseeing the organization’s shared-use commercial kitchen. During his tenure, he helped expand ACEnet’s impact across Southeastern Ohio by supporting entrepreneurs, strengthening local food systems, and advancing community development. As Executive Director, he led the organization’s strategic growth, financial sustainability, and expansion of programs supporting entrepreneurship, workforce development, recovery and reentry, and economic opportunity.

“Larry’s contributions to ACEnet and the communities we serve have been extraordinary,” said ACEnet Board Chair Mollie Fitzgerald.“His vision, dedication, and leadership have helped shape ACEnet into the organization it is today. We are deeply grateful for his service and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Kody joined ACEnet in 2016 as Food Enterprise Coordinator and currently serves as Director of Operations, overseeing ACEnet’s food enterprise and workforce development activities while strengthening operational capacity and regional partnerships.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to serve as ACEnet’s next Executive Director,” said Kody. “Over the past decade, I’ve seen firsthand the impact this organization has on entrepreneurs, workers, and communities throughout our region. Larry’s leadership has built a strong foundation, and I look forward to working with our staff, board, and partners to continue expanding opportunities while staying true to ACEnet’s mission and values.”

Throughout his tenure, Kody has worked directly with entrepreneurs through every stage of business development, from intake and assessment to startup and expansion. His extensive expertise in food safety, regulatory compliance, workforce development, and entrepreneurial assistance has made him a trusted resource for businesses across the region. He has also helped position ACEnet as a leader in supporting rural entrepreneurs and strengthening pathways to economic opportunity.

“Adam has demonstrated a deep commitment to ACEnet’s mission and an exceptional ability to build relationships with entrepreneurs, partners, and community stakeholders,” said Fitzgerald. “His experience, leadership, and vision make him the ideal person to guide ACEnet into its next chapter.”

Founded in 1985, ACEnet is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building economic opportunities through entrepreneurship, innovation, and community development. Through business assistance, specialized food manufacturing resources, and workforce development programs, ACEnet helps individuals and communities create sustainable pathways to prosperity.
