GLOUSTER, Ohio – Beverly Darlene Sawyer Shifflet, 84, of Glouster, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2026, in the ICU at Riverside. She was born on May 14, 1942, in Athens County to the late Ralph Sawyer and Elsie Smart Sawyer Gibson. She retired from Good Year in Logan after 28 years of service. She was a member of the #10 Holiness Mission and the Jacksonville Senior Citizens.
Beverly is survived by a son, Thomas Shifflet Jr.; four daughters, Cindy Shifflet, Rebecca (John Richards) Oskey, Jody (Big Dave) Dearth and Tammy (Jimmy Childs) Gura; grandchildren, Carletta, Chris, Debra, Toni Lynn, Summer, Little Dave, Matt, Kristin, Chelsie, Landon and Tammy; 21 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a brother, Paul Sawyer; a sister-in-law, Helen Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Thomas E. Shifflet Sr.; a brother Ralph Sawyer; a grandson, Chad Eric Shifflet; great grandsons, Cameron Carr and Cameron McClellan; sons-in-law, Jeff Gura, Tony Oskey and Rex Angle; and her stepfather, Jim Gibson.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the extended “family” of caregivers who provided support through OhioHealth Passport.
Special gratitude is also extended to the following friends, who were always there when needed: Phyllis Brooks, Barb Miller, Keith Drake, Brad Smith and Jayanna (Conner) Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Bishopville Church of Christ with Donald Hadaway officiating. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. A visitation will take place at the church on Thursday from 5–8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
