ATHENS, Ohio – David Edison Young, 73, of Athens, died Sunday August 30, 2026at his home. Born October 16, 1952, in Bath, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of the late Donald E. Young and Audrey Denerchant Young.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and had a twenty year career retiring in 1991. He was a Staff Seargent and received several commendation medals and awards. He was employed at “The Athens Messenger” for twenty one years as a box truck delivery driver.
David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy A. Secoy Young; a daughter, Misty (Joe) Ritchie of New Marshfield; a son, Donald (Heather) Young of New Marshfield; a grandson, John Ritchie of New Marshfield; a sister, Susan Heller of Zaleski; and several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents he is preceded in death by a younger brother, James D. Young, in 2014.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor Mark Rood officiating. Burial will be in Hocking Cemetery, The Plains. Friends may call Friday 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Honor Guards of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893.
