GAINESVILLE, Texas – Virginia Morehead Jones, age 96, formerly of Athens, Ohio, died August 19, 2026, in Gainesville, Texas where she had been a resident for several years. Born February 13, 1930, in Guysville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Homer Morehead and Ina Pierce Morehead.
After raising her three children, she was employed for 25 years as Manager of the Art Department at the College Book Store. She was a seventy-one year member of the Richland Methodist Church, and was faithful her entire life. She was famous for her pie baking, sharing her gift with many.
Virginia is survived by her children, Debbie Pearson of Mount Dora, Fla., Steve Jones of Greensboro, NC and Carolyn (John) Robinson of Kiowa, Texas; seven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Paul Jones, who died in 2015; a brother, Robert Morehead: and a sister, Melba Johnson.
A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at the Richland Global Methodist Church, 60 Pomeroy Road, Athens, Ohio 45701. Her ashes will be interred at Federal Valley Cemetery, Ames Township, at the convenience of the family. Local arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home.
