ATHENS, Ohio — The Southeast Ohio History Center is hosting a double-header event, with a silent movie with a grand organ accompaniment, and a live old-fashioned radio performance.
The history center is presenting An Evening of History and Mystery as we welcome the inimitable organist Dennis James as we honor the work of Edgar Allen Poe, with two interpretations of one of his most famous short stories, “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
The first portion of our program will be a live reading of the 1941 Inner Sanctum Mysteries broadcast of “The Tell-Tale Heart,” performed by the Actors’ Moveable Theater and Dennis James. Following a brief intermission, Dennis James will accompany the 1914 silent film, “The Avenging Conscience,” a 1914 silent film starring Henry B. Walthall and Blanche Sweet, and directed by D.W. Griffith.
Friday, Nov. 6 will be a dinner theater-style event, with dinner provided by Purple Chopstix.
Saturday, Nov. 7 is family night, with popcorn and movie snacks available for purchase.
The Southeast Ohio History Center is located at 23 W. State St. in Athens, Ohio. For more information about the history center or to purchase tickets for the event, call 740-592-2280 or visit southeastohiohistory.org
