Vote no on Issue 1 this August

letter to the editor

On August 8, Ohio lawmakers are asking voters to change the state constitution. Here’s why you should vote NO. The law will make it harder for Ohioans to vote directly on issues that concern them. Harder to get an issue on the ballot. Harder to pass an issue–requiring more than a majority of voters to agree.

Why an election in August? Good question. Last December, Ohio lawmakers voted not to hold elections in August unless there’s a financial emergency. This is not a financial emergency. It’s a convenient time to change the constitution while nobody’s paying attention.

Need more facts?

  • Only 8% of Ohio’s registered voters turned out for the last August election
  • All of Ohio’s past governors (two Republican, two Democrat) have spoken out against the proposal.
  • Our Ohio House Rep. Jay Edwards (R-Nelsonville) voted against it.

Tell Ohio lawmakers this sneaky power grab is not ok. Vote NO on August 8.
