NEWARK- Loretta Jane Stewart, age 77, of Newark, formerly of Athens, died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, 2023 at Laurels of Heath. Born Sept. 25, 1945 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Cecil McGlone, Jr. and Gratta Sedwick McGlone.
A 1963 graduate of Athens High School, she was employed as a secretary at Athens area businesses. After moving to Newark in 1985, she was employed as a job coach and transportation specialist for the Licking County MRDD. She was a member of the Hebron Christian Church and former Girl Scout Leader and Mother Advisor for Athens Rainbow for Girls. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, and sports, especially the OU Bobcats, OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals and the Golden State Warriors.
Loretta is survived by her daughter and son in law, Dee & Jason Shenefield of Newark; her son, Michael Stewart of Newark; a granddaughter, Rachel (Ian) Strapp of Galena; three bonus granddaughters, Sarah (David) McDorman of Delaware, Shannon (Corbin) Hunt of Ostrander and Amanda (Joey) Shenefield of Lancaster; four great grandchildren, Delaney, Nathan, Amelia and Charlotte; a sister in law, Janet McGlone, a niece, Jennifer (Leigh) McGlone and nephew, Ian McGlone all of California; brothers in law, Eddie Stewart of Florida and the late Robert (Machelle) Stewart of Athens and their family.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Jerry McGlone.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Tina Black officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery, Bern Township. Friends may call Saturday 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Special Olympics.
