Allen Seth Teicher, age 76, died on October 20, 2022 at home in Albany OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy (Lipsius) Teicher and Milton Teicher, and his sister Karen Teicher.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Seth graduated from West Hempstead high school. After completing military service, some of which he spent in Ethiopia playing piano in a local band, Seth worked as a chef, a wood turner, and an electrician in various parts of the U.S.
In 2002 Seth moved to Athens to be near his sister’s best friend Mimi Hart. He made friends easily here and was a beloved and generous member of the Athens community. He was also an animal lover who carried dog biscuits with him at all times, just in case.
Following the death of his father, Seth became president of Epstein Teicher Philanthropies and channeled funding to southeastern Ohio in support of many local nonprofits, some of whom wouldn’t have flourished without the Philanthropies’ help:
Stuart’s Opera House
Rural Action in Glouster
Hillel Foundation of Ohio University
Passion Works Studio
Dairy Barn Arts Center
Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart
Integrated Services of Appalachian Ohio
Hocking College Department of Health and Safety
Paper Circle in Nelsonville
Amesville Elementary School Library
Osage Corral Equine Therapy
Hospice Music Program
Scholarship in Culinary Arts at Hocking College
Hocking Athens Perry County Community Action on the Plains
Seth shared his experience as a stroke victim suffering from aphasia with his clinician Brooke Hallowell, contributing to her book “Aphasia and Other Acquired Neurogenic Language Disorders.” Close friend Linda Cochran supplemented his lessons with Dr. Hallowell by meeting weekly with him in her home.
Seth is missed by all who knew him, and all who knew him loved him. His greeting was one of outstretched arms and a warm, loving smile.
Rest in peace, dear brother; your community thanks you and will never forget you.
A celebration of Seth’s life will be held at the Federal Valley Resource Center at 8225 St. Rte. 329 in Stewart, Ohio, on October 29th from 2-5 p.m.
