Carolyn Calentine

ATHENS- Carolyn L. Calentine, 88, of Athens, Ohio passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at her home after an extended illness.  

Born January 6, 1935 in Chillicothe, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Rost Leyme.  Carolyn graduated from Chillicothe High School and Hocking College.  She retired from Columbia Gas after 22 years of service.  

Carolyn (Suzi to some) was generous, kind and compassionate, always willing to help family, friends or those in need.  She was an active member of the Amesville Presbyterian Church up until the time of her illness.  Her last wish was to attend church, which was fulfilled three days prior to her death.  Over the years she enjoyed singing with Sweet Adelines, the Church Choir and was passionate about donating to multiple charitable organizations.

She is survived by four daughters, Jacquie (Randy) Loschert of Georgetown, KY, Jeannie Samples of Athens, Jennie Coen of Shade and Jodie (Ward) Howe of Albany; eight grandchildren, Jessica Martin, Abigail (Stuart) Snyder, Lance (Amanda Griffin) Loschert, Shawn Samples, Zachary (Cara Mowery) Coen, Hannah (Denise) Kelbaugh, Mitchell (Jenielle) Daugherty, and Austin Daugherty; eight great grandchildren, Brant (Larry) Martin, Kaden (Lauren Wiggins) Martin, Clark, Shepard, Sara Kate & Bennett Snyder, Kendall & Audrey Daugherty.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Homer L. Calentine; two sisters, Dorothy (Marty) Corbin and Ruth (Clare) Shuman; a brother, Jimmy Leyme; two sisters-in-law, Eileene (Dewey) Dailey and Beulah (Oscar) McGee; and a brother-in-law, Robert (Betty) Calentine.

The Funeral Service will be conducted Wednesday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Steve Hays officiating.  Burial will be in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.  Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.  Friends may call Tuesday, October 10th from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amesville Presbyterian Church, P.O.
