Ann Simpson

THE PLAINS- Ann Simpson, 90, of The Plains, departed this life on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center after a brief illness.

Our beloved Aunt Ann was a treasured daughter, sister, wife, neighbor, and friend to many.  She was born to the late Willard and Gladys Starkey Simonton on February 28, 1933, at Grant Hospital in Columbus.  She attended Nelsonville City and Albany Local Schools and graduated from Chauncey Dover High School.

Ann was employed as a cook at the Athens County Home, serving with her parents who were the Superintendent and Matron there for 21 years. She also worked as a personal care aide at Kimes Convalescent Nursing Home and Echoing Meadows of Athens.

In 1991 she married the love of her life, Leonard Simpson, and they enjoyed 15 years of marriage before his passing in 2006.  Ann was a member of the First Christian Church of Athens and most recently Airline Church of Christ, Albany.

She is survived by her niece, Mary McPherson (Gail) of Ames Township, her nephews, Willard (Phyllis) Love of Albany and John (Sybil) Love of Angola, IN, and Bob (Phyllis) Brandeberry of Rio Grande; three grand nieces, Katie (James) Chaney of Cape Coral FL, Jennifer (Chris) Sears of Angola, IN, and Jessica (Chris) Rupprecht of Shaker Heights; four grand nephews, Michael (Lynn Myers) Brandeberry of Rio Grande, Sam (Amy) Love of Albany, Matthew (Jennifer) Love of Angola, IN, and Aaron (Lindsay) McPherson of Columbus; a grand niece in law, Tina Brandeberry of Rio Grande; twenty great grand nieces and nephews and five great, great grand nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister and brother in law, Kathleen and Harry Love; her niece, Sue Love Brandeberry; her grand nephew, David Brandeberry; and beloved grandparents Sam and Blanche Starkey.

Services will be held at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, on Monday, December 18 at 1PM with calling hours 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home with her family officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Airline Church of Christ, P.O. Box 202, Albany, OH or the March of Dimes at marchofdimes.org. Ann and her mother were both survivors of severe preeclampsia of pregnancy and prematurity, your donation would further support research and care for premature infants and the diseases that contribute.
