Auditor encourages property owners to review preliminary 2026 property values

ATHENS, Ohio – Athens County Auditor Jill Davidson announced today that preliminary property values from the county’s 2026 reappraisal are now available for public review on the Athens County Auditor’s website.

Ohio law requires every county to reappraise all real property every six years to reflect changes in the real estate market. The values now available online are the preliminary Tax Year 2026 values. Following final approval by the Ohio Department of Taxation, these values will become effective January 1, 2026, and will first be reflected on property tax bills payable in 2027.

The Auditor’s Office willl be mailing postcards to property owners notifying them that the preliminary values are available online and encouraging them to review their property records.
Davidson encourages every property owner to review their property information to ensure it is accurate. Property owners should verify information such as acreage, building size, construction details, and other property characteristics used in determining value.

“Our goal has always been to value property fairly and accurately,” Davidson said. “The best way we can do that is by maintaining accurate property records. I encourage every property owner to take a few minutes to review their information. If everything looks correct, no action is necessary. If you have questions or notice something that doesn’t look right, please contact us. We’d much rather answer questions and make corrections now than after values are finalized.”

The Auditor’s website displays the new preliminary 2026 value. Property owners wishing to compare that value with their current value may refer to their recently received second-half 2025 property tax bill, which reflects the current taxable value.

Property owners who would like to discuss their property with an appraiser may schedule an informal review. Representatives will be available to meet with property owners in the Athens County Auditor’s Conference Room on:

  • • Wednesday, July 29, 2026
  • • Thursday, July 30, 2026
  • • Friday, July 31, 2026

Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Athens County Auditor’s Real Estate Division at (740) 592-3223 or auditor.re@athensoh.org.

These informal meetings provide an opportunity to review property record cards, discuss how values were determined, answer questions, and correct any factual errors before values are finalized.
