Arlene M. Champe 94 of Jacksonville passed away Saturday July 20, 2024 at her residence. Born Sep. 7, 1929 in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Vera Kasler White. She retired from the Athens Mental Health Center. Arlene was a member of the Hooper Ridge Church of Christ, a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Stars, a member of the Glouster American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the 40 & 8 club in Corning. She was former owner and operator of Champe’s Little Giant Store in Jacksonville and also the Beach Road Mart.
She is survived by a son, James (Nina) Andrews; five daughters, Diana (Craig Ginnan) Miller, Jacalyn (Bill) Patton, Cathy Morris, Martha Dolan, and Cynthia (John) Campbell; a step daughter, Romona (Champe) Warner; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Andrews; second husband, Ruler Champe; grandchildren, Jasmith Champe, Jamie Morris and Denise Binns; sons-in-law, Dave Dolan and Arvil Miller; brothers, Lee White and Neal White; a sister, Wilma Cavey VanHorn.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday July 24, 2024 at the Bishopville Church of Christ with Jon Hanning officiating. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. A dinner will be held in the church social hall immediately following the service.
