ATHENS, Ohio – An open house to discuss the city’s Uptown streetscape and utility relocation project will be held 1–3 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at the Athens Armory, 1 Armory Street, Athens, OH 45701
The City of Athens is working on the revitalization and modernization of the Uptown Athens Central Business District. Work includes utility burial, new landscaping and streetscaping, pedestrian improvements, and corridor extensions on Carpenter Street and State Street. Additional work will take place at several intersections throughout the Uptown area to replace traffic signals.
The purpose of the May 19 Open House is to discuss the project and proposed improvements with the community, answer questions, and gather community input.
City representatives, along with representatives from American Structurepoint, the design firm, and Miller Cable Company, the contractor, will be available during the Open House for general questions about the project, and to gather feedback and any concerns about the project, environmental issues, historic issues, or features in the project area. Citizens are encouraged to drop by any time between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm to speak with a member of the project team and share their thoughts on the project. There is no fixed program.
