Anonymous donor makes a happy Thanksgiving for local residents

The donor provided 1,662 pounds of food that Athens Food Rescue volunteers distributed to organizations across the county.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — Special deliveries by Athens Food Rescue to area food programs this past week gave more people good reason to be thankful.

An anonymous benefactor provided 1,662 pounds of food that was picked up and delivered by AFR volunteers.  The food included bread, vegetables, fruit, milk and prepared meals.

Deliveries were made to Good Works, The Gathering Place, United Campus Ministry, First United Methodist Church, The Hive, and Feed My Sheep. Donations also were provided to the food pantry volunteers in Bishopville for pickup.

Nanda Filkin, executive director of Athens Food Rescue, expressed gratitude to the donor, who has many, many times provided food to help feed Athens area residents who don’t get enough to eat.

“The donor is very generous and thoughtful about being a good community neighbor,” said Filkin.  “That includes a commitment to reducing waste as well as reducing hunger.”

AFR — a non-profit organization — has the same goal and works with several donor–partners.  They supply the food and AFR volunteers provide the transportation.
