Former Athens County Auditor’s Office employee charged with theft in office

ATHENS, Ohio — A former Athens County Auditor’s Office employee faces felony charges of theft in office and tampering with records, according to Athens County Court of Common Pleas records.

A complaint dated Sept. 17 alleges that Kristen Andrews, a former deputy auditor at the Athens County Auditor’s Office, tampered with auditor’s office records “on or about” Jan. 29, 2021, and stole from the auditor’s office between April 7, 2021, and May 31, 2023. 

Andrews faces two third-degree felony charges for the alleged infractions, according to the court docket.

Andrews’ bond was set at $25,000, according to a Sept. 18 court record. She is currently being held at the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail, according to the SEORJ inmate search webpage. She will be released if she pays $2,500.

Andrews resigned from her position at the Athens County Auditor’s Office effective April 28, 2023, according to Athens County Commissioners meeting minutes.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Athens County Auditor Jill Davidson declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
